ADVANTAGES OF SYNTHETIC OIL

These lubricating fluids were designed to overcome the shortcomings of mineral or conventional oil. Thanks to the modification at the molecular level and the incorporation of more advanced systems of additives in their formulations, synthetic oil and lubricants have many advantages over conventional ones.

The benefits of synthetic oil include.

1. UNIFORM COMPOSITION

Synthetic lubricants are engineered from artificially built chemical compounds. These synthetic compounds are made from petroleum molecules which are first broken down and then rebuilt. Thanks to this rebuilding process, synthetic oils have a more uniform molecular structure. This property is highly important. It enables a more even and regular lubrication of the machine which results in less power consumption and increased efficiency.

2 FEWER IMPURITIES

Mineral oils originate from natural sources. They contain various chemical compounds including waxes, oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen, phosphorus, and others. These compounds affect the performance and service life of the oil by triggering oxidation or degradation of the oil. They can also lead to sludge and deposit formation and higher evaporation levels, especially at high operating temperatures.

Synthetic oils contain far fewer impurities or contaminants than mineral oils because they have broken down and resynthesized.

3 OXIDATION STABILITY

Since they are purer with regard to their composition, synthetic oils are more stable and durable products than mineral oils particularly at extreme temperatures and extreme working conditions.

Compared to mineral oils, synthetic fluids remain stable when exposed to low and high temperatures, water, fuel contamination, acids, and other combustion byproducts that occur in machine engines. In relation to water exposure, what has to be mentioned is that synthetic oil is non-hydrolytic. In other words, they remain stable in damp environments as they do not form emulsion when exposed to water.

Altogether, increased oil oxidation stability leads to increased engine performance.

4 HIGHER VISCOSITY INDEX

One of the very important advantages of synthetic oil is its higher viscosity index. A higher viscosity index indicates that synthetic oil is more resistant to temperature changes. Furthermore, this affects the flowability of the synthetic oil as they maintain a high flowability rate at low temperatures and do not thin out at high temperatures. They form a thicker protective film and provide higher protection against wear and tear.

5 HIGHER FLASH POINT

Synthetic oils have a higher flash point which makes them ideal for extreme temperature applications. Their reduced flammability makes them an ideal choice in industries where fire represents a common hazard. Additionally, this requirement is in accordance with the rising safety concerns and demands across industries.

6 LONGER SERVICE LIFE

In general, synthetic oil and lubricants have a much longer service life than mineral oils meaning they require less frequent oil changes. The typical change interval is around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles, while some full HD synthetic oil products reach even longer intervals and such you spend less money on oil changes.

These extended drain intervals impact a part of the maintenance costs which is one of the points that justify the higher price of synthetic oil. Additionally, thanks to the excellent anti-wear properties of synthetic lubricants, engines and machines become more efficient and reliable.

7 BETTER ENERGY EFFICIENCY

An additional benefit of synthetic oil which comes as a result of its higher traction coefficient is better energy efficiency. In layman’s terms, the higher traction coefficient means that an engine using synthetic oil requires less force or horsepower to move heavy loads.

IN SUMMARY,

Synthetic oil and lubricants are more advanced products compared to their traditional counterparts. Although their price is slightly higher than that of mineral-based lubricants, they are cost-effective in the long run as more stable products, they have an extended service life and drain intervals.

Their chemical composition and advanced system of additives increase the engine’s performance and prevent wear and tear which overall increases its reliability. Due to their higher viscosity properties, synthetic oils are resistant to temperature changes and can be used in a range of applications, especially in extreme temperatures. Finally, some synthetic lubricants are fully biodegradable which makes them ideal for applications in sensitive environments.

HOW TO PROPERLY TOW YOUR AWD/4WD VEHICLE SAFELY.

The assurance of extra traction on our wet and bad roads has made all-wheel drive (AWD) a popular option for many car buyers. Cars such as the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, Lexus RX350, Honda Pilot, Mercedes GL series are now in higher demand. However, the addition of all-wheel drive makes towing a vehicle complicated.  An AWD warning sticker What is AWD (All Wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four Wheel Drive)? Both terms are commonly used interchangeably as they have similarities. There're some differences, however. 4WD systems are generally optimized for off-road use . Part-time 4WD systems allow the driver to manually engage all four wheels at low speeds (crawl mode). Full-time 4WD systems work similarly to AWD, allowing drivers to keep all four wheels engaged. Most 4WD systems use front and rear differentials, plus a transfer case for engaging the front and/or rear axles e.g., the Toyota Hilux with the low jack mode. AWD systems are optimized for on-road use. AWD systems typically use

COVID-19: Cleaning Your Car

If the coronavirus outbreak has you cleaning up against bacteria and viruses, your car can prove a real challenge. It has lots of nooks and crannies, all crammed into a closed space shared by multiple people. A car interior The owner's manual for my car disallows almost every cleaning solution other than a damp cloth. The typical car owner's manual will rule out most strong cleaners you might reach for to kill germs and viruses. Let's see our other options. Sprays and liquids The active ingredient in many spray cleaners is sodium hypochlorite, which is household bleach. A spray cleaner probably has around 2% concentration of bleach, compared to a bottle of common household bleach with a 6% concentration, but it's still there. Bleach is a great disinfectant, but one that seems too harsh, especially over time and repeated uses. On places like rear cargo mats, door scuff plates and other tough trim pieces, it is an option. WHAT MAKES UP YOUR ENGINE OIL?

Automotive engine oil is the result of a complex mix and certain compromises. Base oils (70–85%) Mineral oils: Historical workhorse made through distillation and hydroprocessing. Modern mineral oils are often chemically modified. Poly-α-olefins: Synthetic base stocks that offer a good balance of viscosity properties and volatility, as well as greater thermal and oxidative stability over mineral oils. Esters: Used in small amounts to make additives more soluble. Fluidity modifiers (5–20%) Viscosity modifiers: Polymers that stabilize the viscosity of oil as the temperature changes. They coil at low temperatures, increasing flow, and uncoil at higher temperatures, decreasing flow. Pour-point depressants: Molecules that prevent wax formation at low temperatures. Performance additives (8–15%) Antioxidants: Often aminic and phenolic compounds that prevent base-oil oxidation, the primary cause of oil degradation. Anti-wear additives: Compounds, commonly zinc dithiophosphate, that adhere to m
